Our God

Our God
Thematically, this is a fairly typical praise tune about how great God is. Check out the chorus: “Our God is greater, our God is stronger / God you are higher than any other / Our God is healer, awesome in power / Our God, Our God”. That’s this tune in a nutshell. It’s solid, but nothing really special lyrically. What makes this tune a gem is the fact that it’s easy to learn and fun to sing - a winning combination for a worship song!

Love Can Change the World

Love Can Change the World
This tune is about love; God being Love and Love bringing about change in the world. We used this song for our launch this past Easter and it has become a favorite at Sanctuary. The band loves to play it and folks seem to love singing it.

Shorties (but Goodies)

Lots of Folks

Shorties (but Goodies)
There are a bunch of worship songs that don’t really have much to them. They might be a line or two, might contain a few short sections, or could even be some brilliant chorus stolen from another song. Songs like this potentially work well in the Taize style, where they’re just repeated over and over again, either as a whole song or just one section. Prepare the Way is one example of a song that can be used like this in a really beautiful way. It’s great for Advent with John the Baptist and it works well to just repeat it over and over as an introduction to a reading or some such thing.

You Never Let Go

Matt Redman

You Never Let Go
This is a fun song.  The lyrics are good and solid (verse one quotes part of Psalm 23), and the message is so universal that it really could be used any time. Even so, we think it could work particularly well during Epiphany which tends to echo the pleas of the people for God’s action in their lives.
