SOME OF THE SONGS WE SING AT SANCTUARY

Sigh No More

Mumford and Sons

Sigh No More
This tune comes from the same group that gave us our Advent song, “Awake My Soul”. The band’s called Mumford and Sons and they’re not necessarily known as a “Christian band” or as writers of worship songs. We were introduced to them by a couple members of Sanctuary who have been listening to the band for a while now. And now we’re singing their tunes in worship.

Awake My Soul

Mumford & Sons

Awake My Soul
This is a tune that Mark and Sarah learned and fell in love with a few months ago during a trip home to Columbus. And it ended up being the theme for Advent at Sanctuary this year. Like a lot of the music we sing, this song is super simple. It’s easy to learn, easy to teach, and a lot of fun to sing and play.

How Many Kings

by Jason Germain and Marc Martel

How Many Kings
This is most definitely one of our favorite Christmas songs. In essence, it tells part of the story of Christmas as found in the gospels, but with some serious lyrical mastery: “Follow the star to a place unexpected” to see this “unlikeliest hero, wrapped in His mother’s shawl”. Each verse hold a high standard for story telling and lyrical depth, and does not disappoint.

Enchanted

Aaron Niequist

Enchanted
This is another favorite of ours from Aaron Niequist. If you’re looking for a tune about the beauty, wonder, and whimsy all around us, then check this one out! Here’s verse 1: “This world is enchanted / lean closer to see it / This world is enchanted / Dare to breathe it in.”
