A Screen Door

Seeing the Beauty in the Down To Earth

There’s a pizza place around the corner from our house that has a screen door. That’s not all that extraordinary, but I suppose it’s the location - in a strip mall - that makes the existence of that squeaky, hole-filled screen door jump out at me every time.

There are a lot of pizza places in town, but to me this one is just different.

Mostly because of the door.

It makes it feel so... down to earth.

This is what I love about Christmas. We find extra time, we squeeze in some more vacation, we visit people we only see a few times a year. It’s so down to earth. All because we have a down to earth God. God who is willing to get messy, take some extra time, and re-prioritize in order to be accessible. To be down to earth.

Coming up in January we’ll be introducing our “Unplug” series. After all the rushing, hype and general busy days that accompany the holiday season, we’re going to try and tackle the challenge of finding balance in life.

Jesus sets the example again and again of doing what you’re meant to do, then finding space to breath.

Taking time to rest.

Making room to pray.

If you’re longing for a head start, we’ll be working through the Gospel of Luke throughout the next few months.

24 Chapters / 2 Chapters per week = about 3 months of reading and reflecting on this down to earth story of God with us.

What are you ready to unplug?
